Online supermarkets becoming popular in Japan
Major supermarket chains in Japan are strengthening their online stores as a way to deal with declining sales amid the economic downturn.

The supermarket chain Summit operates mainly in the greater Tokyo area. It will open a large delivery center for online purchases in October, in partnership with Sumitomo, the trading house.

Summit says staff at the new center will take orders from online customers and manage deliveries, in the hope of doubling the amount of orders processed. The company says the center will also help ensure that items are kept in stock.

The major supermarket chain Jusco is to double the number of stores in this business year, which deal with deliveries to online customers, and Ito Yokado will raise its number by 30 percent.

Online supermarkets take customers’ orders online, and deliver the items quickly via their outlets. Online ordering is becoming more and more popular among mothers with small children and people taking care of sick relatives.
3) SUMMARY
The Japanese main supermarket chains strengthen an online store to raise sales in the depression. For example, Summit which supermarket chain will open a large delivery center for online purchases in October. The new center will manage to take order from online customers and deliveries, so it will help ensure that items are kept in stock, The major supermarket chain Jusco and Ito-Yokado concentrate on an online shop, too. Online supermarkets are very convenient for mothers who have a small child and an ill relative.
4) OPINION
I think it is very useful and convenient. If I have a baby, going to supermarkets is hard for me, because I can’t leave a baby alone, and going together is also hard. I think this system is very good. In addition, it is convenient for the elderly of the single life that cannot go shopping. Actually, but, it has the problem to be difficult for the elderly to use the Internet. If it is solved, the online supermarket will spread more. However you should sometimes go for shopping by yourself to watch goods directly. Because choosing a foods judging from own eye is important to be conscious of security of the foods.
